What is Judaism?

Judaism is a collection of teachings, facts, instructions and commandments from the one Creator of the universe, the Almighty God (YHWH, commonly pronounced as "Yahweh").

How old is Judaism?

Its roots stretch back to the very creation of the world. According to biblical chronology, the Earth was created in six days His words are eternal. When He says a day, it means 24 hours... , and approximately 6,000 years Isn't the Earth billions of years old? Where does the figure of 6,000 years come from?... have passed since that event. On the sixth day, Adam and Eva were created. Prior to the incident, they observed all moral laws and did not sin, even though the concept of Judaism as we know it from the time of Moses did not exist back then. Therefore, they observed the 10 commandments before they were ever officially given to Moses by God.

Adam and Eva did not just "believe" in God; they knew that He existed because they were in direct communion with Him - just as someone does not "believe" in the sun, but knows that it exists.

Only after the fall into sin, after nearly two and a half millennia, and after the Flood, does God give Moses a role in communicating the 10 commandments as well as all the other 613 commandments over time. He also gives him a role in writing the first chapters of the Bible, i.e., the foundation of the Bible. Those chapters describe the history of the earth, the chronology of events, and the laws. Around this, the concept of Judaism was formed, with the goal of binding all people into a single nation who, after the fall into sin, wished to accept the covenant with God, respect Him, and serve Him. And serving God is reflected through deeds, i.e., observing His commandments, as well as a personal relationship with Him.

Therefore, if we look at who formed the concept of Judaism, it is God, and then it can be said that Judaism is as old as the creation of the world, which means 6,000 years. If we look at who were the first people who decided to accept the covenant with God even though they were sinners before that, then that nation would be Moses' Israel, and Judaism is around 3,500 years old, since Moses received the 10 commandments in the year 2448 (counting from the creation of the world).
