Isn’t the Earth Billions of Years Old?

The “Old Earth” theory (the theory that the Earth was formed 4.54 billion years ago) is largely based on the radiocarbon dating method. However, even if we accept the accuracy of that method, God is by definition Almighty; He is capable of creating a fully formed Earth out of nothing, just as He created Adam and Eve as adults. This does not disprove God or His account of creating the Earth in six days.

Where Does the Figure of 6,000 Years Come From?

The question of the world being 6,000 years old is not based on random guesswork, but on a careful study of biblical genealogies and chronological records. Many theologians and researchers, using data from the Bible - from the creation of Adam to the birth of Christ, and then adding the elapsed time to the present day - come to the conclusion that human history is in the final phase of its sixth millennium.

This theory supports ancient rabbinic teaching, which interprets the symbolism of the six days of creation as six millennia of human history under the rule of fallen man, followed by the “seventh millennium” or “Sabbath” - a period of peace and divine order. Although there are differences in calculations depending on which biblical manuscripts are used (the Masoretic Text or the Septuagint), they all point to the same crucial fact: the time given to us is not infinite. We will quote a verse from Psalm 90:4

“For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night.”

We will remind you that the Lord created the world in 6 days, and rested on the seventh.

If we combine all these facts - human history can be viewed through three periods of 2,000 years each:

• The period from Adam to Abraham
• The period from Abraham to the first coming of the Messiah
• The period (in which we live today) - from the first coming of the Messiah to His second coming.

The final chapter of human history will be the Millennial Sabbath, a 1,000-year period of peace, after which God will seal history as we know it. This is a profound reason why God chose to create the Earth in seven days and to rest on the Sabbath (the seventh day, according to the original Hebrew calendar).
